To add to my post above, the city driving is never over 60km is that a reason to having worse fuel economy?
And can driving slower be worse? From what I have heard on this thread pushing the Magna's makes them more fuel efficient to alot of people? And would that be more so the case in the 5 speed auto too?
And would premium 97 octane fuel be better for the VR Wagon than normal 91, and would using premium after using an injector cleaner keep the whole thing working better and help deter carbon build up in the long run?
I'll post next week what I get out of a full tank to update. Also will use a injector cleaner too. Hopefully it helps.
Would doing a full coolant flush help with economy too by any chance?
As when I do that I might change fuel filters over too and add more oil, if the service history states it hasn't been done for awhile.
Love this car, but **** the fuel.

The reason for higher fuel consumption in the city compared to highway is the same reason I haven't changed my brake pads for almost 100K and they are still only halfway through their life.
Stopping and starting. Stopping wastes forward momentum and costs brake pads while accelerating again costs more fuel.

I have a 2005 TW Solara 2wd 4sp auto sedan we have owned since new. it has a few minor tweaks (about 170kw on tap) and 110k on the clock. Serviced and maintained fanatically. My driving ratio would be about 85% around town with an occasional 80km run to the coast or something. I drive moderately but I don't have a lawn bowls hat on the back parcel shelf either I make continual use of the cruise control at anything above 70km/h.

I've driven competitively in my younger years, the lessons of energy conservation are still with me in my driving style. The car is dropped 50mm and on a custom suspension with 235 pirelli dragons so I generally wash off speed well before or when entering corners often without using brakes at all. not being flash it's just ingrained after all these years. I've just changed out the original brake pads, didn't need to but I did the big service so just included it. I usually run 140K on a set of brake pads because I rarely brake to any degree. (you know what I mean I'm sure)

Just because I've done a little work on her and removed the speed limter etc shouldn't been seen as an indication I stick it. It's just a hangover from my kid days, I don't use it but I like having it there.

Over the last 4000km it has averaged 11.6l per 100km on 91 RON. There's a dual rail fuel injection mod and exchange injection body on the horizon so I expect it will use somewhat more then.

    Regards
    Ari
